TL;DR: modern proprietary software sucks especially discord; open source selfhostable software rocks!

"modern" software seems to be flawed in so many different ways; i cant for the life of me understand how we are evolving backwards as a species

ive recently moved on from discord; i dont use it that much due to the platform becoming one of the worst places to communicate and connect with people due to the sheer amount of tracking, ads, nitro only features, discord e-degens, discord larpers and so so so many other different things

i genuinely cannot understand how some people are still suction cupped to this platform? do you not know about xmpp? hell even matrix??; with all the noise regarding discords age verification i think people should care a lot more about their privacy online rather than just giving their id to persona (a company linked with palantir btw)

theres so many good alternatives to discord out there; i mostly use mumble and xmpp nowadays and i seriously do not miss discord a single bit! matter of fact i love it way more now that i can host my own instances and not have to rely on centralized platforms

if youve ever been wondering "hmm should i host my own xmpp/mumble/anything instance?"; go do it!
